New work completed: Saxophone Quartet – Moving and Touching

31 Oct 2013

The Swedish saxophone quartet Rollin' Phones has commissioned a work from Jörgen Dafgård which is now ready. The work, with the title Saxophone Quartet – Moving and Touching, consists of five movements and has a duration of 20 minutes. It will be premiered in Spring 2014. The five movements were composed on different occasions around August. Dafgård found his inspiration from Nordic nature and from experiences (relations and activities) in his life at the time. The first and the last movement make up a balancing pair due to their longer duration – just over five minutes. In between comes three shorter movements lasting between two-and-a-half and three minutes. Movements two and four are insistently extrovert while movements one, three and five are more lyrical. As for their character, the first and the fourth are the most complex of the movements, while the others are more unified in their expression. The movements can also be played as pieces of their own.
